The Queensland Tennis Centre was bathed in golden light as the Brisbane Breakers edged out the Sydney Smash in a dramatic Dreambreaker finale to secure the Masters 50+ Major League Pickleball Australia Championship.
It was a storybook finish to a weekend of high-stakes competition. Both teams battled through two grueling days of play to set up the ultimate showdown. As reported earlier in the tournament, Smash had powered their way into the final with commanding doubles wins and clinical mixed play, while the Breakers showed resilience and depth across their roster to keep their title hopes alive.
The final itself was everything fans could have asked for: tight rallies, dramatic swings of momentum, and the crowd on their feet as the Dreambreaker decider unfolded under the setting Brisbane sun.
“A Dreambreaker at sunset—Masters pickleball at its finest.”
— Sange Carter, MLPA Commissioner
The Breakers held their nerve in the one-on-one format, using composure and experience to outlast Smash and seal the championship.
“The Breakers showed heart and belief when it mattered most.”
— Coco Lococo, Breakers Coach
The victory capped an incredible journey through the tournament. Day 1 saw Smash and Breakers make early statements, with dominant doubles performances and consistency across mixed play. Day 2 narrowed the field, testing depth and endurance, and the Breakers and Smash proved they were a class above—punching their tickets to Championship Sunday.
Player rankings were determined across all matches by first calculating total games won versus games lost, followed by total matches won, and finally resolved through Dreambreakers where required.
With the Breakers crowned as champions and the Smash pushing them all the way, the Masters 50+ division set a new benchmark for pickleball excellence in Australia. Championship Sunday at QTC will be remembered not just for its winners, but for its atmosphere, drama, and the passion of every player who took the court.
