In a blockbuster finish to three action-packed days at Central Pick, the Bondi Pickleball Club delivered one of the great comeback stories in MLP Australia, defeating the undefeated Brisbane Breakers with a commanding 3–0 sweep in the championship final.
Brisbane entered the final as the powerhouse of the tournament, marching through every matchup undefeated with consistency, clean execution, and relentless pressure. But the finals hit different, and Bondi were ready.
Bondi’s path to the trophy was anything but straightforward. After falling to Sydney Smash in the semi-final, they were forced into the backdraw. They responded with steely resolve, defeating SEA Surge, then avenging their earlier loss with a composed, clinical victory over Sydney Smash. They arrived at the final with momentum, belief, and a hardened edge.
Bondi couldn’t have started stronger. Roos van Reek and Kat Westbury hit championship court with intensity, precision, and complete control. Brisbane’s pairing of Katie Morris and Nikita Tang fought to find rhythm, but Bondi were ruthless, dictating tempo, winning hand battles, and delivering a commanding 21–7 opener to set the tone for the final.
The men took to the court with Bondi leading 1–0. Max Manthou and Louis Laville continued their team’s powerhouse form, surging ahead early with calm resets and sharp finishing. Brisbane’s George Wall and Jack Wong, however, showed immense heart, mounting a comeback to level the score 15–15, threatening to flip the match. Bondi called a crucial timeout, a turning point. Reset and refocused, Max and Louis returned composed, closing out the game 21–18 and pushing Bondi to a commanding two-game lead.
With the trophy on the line, Bondi deployed their most dynamic duo: Roos van Reek and Max Manthou. Facing Brisbane’s George Wall and Nikita Tang, Bondi were locked in from the first ball. Roos dominated the kitchen with elite movement and anticipation, while Max applied constant pressure and created openings. The pair surged away to a decisive 21–7 win, sealing the championship and completing a flawless final performance.
Across the weekend, Roos van Reek was exceptional, the emotional and tactical anchor of Bondi’s campaign. Her dominance across women’s and mixed doubles made her the standout choice for MLP Australia MVP, cementing her as one of the brightest talents in the league.
