Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports and it's easy to see why! It’s fun, fast-paced and great for anyone who wants to be active. Whether you’re a tennis player looking for something new or simply looking for an exciting way to get exercise, pickleball might just be your perfect match. To give yourself the best chance at success when playing pickleball, it's important to understand the basic rules and strategies involved. So, grab a paddle and get ready to score some points!

What are the rules?

This fast-paced game combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong into a unique and exciting experience. The rules are simple:

  • The game is played with two or four players using paddles to hit a perforated ball over a net, trying to get it to land in the opponent's half of the court.
  • You can only serve underhand, and the ball can only bounce once before being hit.
  • The ball must bounce once on the opponent's side of the court before it can be volleyed in the air.
  • If a player fails to serve or return the ball, they lose a point.
  • Points are only scored by the serving player or team, and games are played to 11, with the winning team needing to have a two-point lead.

What equipment do I need?

Having the right equipment can make all the difference in your game. From paddles to balls, there are a variety of options to choose from, which can feel overwhelming at first. However, with some careful consideration and research, you can find the right gear to enhance your gameplay. One key factor to keep in mind is the materials used in the paddle, as this can impact the weight and durability. Another important factor is the type of ball you choose, as each one can offer a different level of bounce and playability. By taking your time to explore your options and consult with other players, you can find the gear that best suits your needs and helps you take your pickleball skills to the next level.
